Description: The Biology Department at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Georgia is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning in August 2008 pending budgetary approval.

Teaching duties will include courses in introductory biology, microbiology for majors and allied health students, advanced microbiology courses such as applied or environmental microbiology, and other courses appropriate to the candidate's area of specialization. Successful candidates for the position must demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, develop research programs that engage undergraduate students, and provide appropriate service to the department and institution.

 
Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in microbiology or a related field is required. Candidates with expertise in environmental microbiology are especially encouraged to apply. Previous experience teaching microbiology courses strongly preferred.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation.

   
The University: Armstrong Atlantic State University is a four-year coeducational senior unit in the University System of Georgia and has an enrollment of more than 6800 students. It is located approximately twelve miles south of the historic district of the city of Savannah on a modern 268 acre campus. The core mission of the university is a strong liberal arts education for all students, and the strategic directions of the university are applied science and technology, teacher education, health professions, and community and economic development.

With a metropolitan area population of 296,232 and an adjacent six-county population of 471,000, Savannah is well-positioned for future growth. The university campus is 20 miles from sandy beaches, and only a mile or so from crabbing, shrimping, and saltwater fishing.
