Description: Armstrong Atlantic State University invites application for a tenure track position at the rank of assistant professor in the Department of Biology. The appointment will begin August 2008, pending budgetary approval.

Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, develop research programs that engage students, and provide appropriate service to the department and institution.

 
Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in plant biology or a related field is required. Candidates with expertise in plant physiology or development are especially encouraged to apply. Teaching duties will include courses in plant biology, participation in the introductory biology sequence, and other courses appropriate to the candidate's area of specialization.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation.

 
The University: Armstrong Atlantic State University is a four-year coeducational senior unit in the University System of Georgia and has an enrollment of more than 6800 students. It is located approximately twelve miles south of the historic district of the city of Savannah on a modern 268 acre campus. The core mission of the university is a strong liberal arts education for all students, and the strategic directions of the university are applied science and technology, teacher education, health professions, and community and economic development.
   
The Community: Armstrong is located in historic Savannah Georgia, a coastal city located 250 miles southeast of Atlanta, Georgia and 150 miles north of Jacksonville, Florida. Savannah has long been known as a charming city; rich in beauty, cultural diversity, support for the arts, and opportunities for recreation. In the last decade the city has capitalized on its diverse manufacturing base, flourishing tourist industry, and thriving port to become the economic motor for the region. With a metropolitan area population of 296,232 and an adjacent six-county population of 471,000, Savannah is well-positioned for future growth. The university campus is 20 miles from sandy beaches, and only a mile or so from crabbing, shrimping, and saltwater fishing.
