Armstrong Atlantic State University invites
applications and nominations for a dynamic
and innovative leader to assume the position
of the Dean of the College of Education.
The Dean of Education reports directly
to the Vice President of Academic Affairs/Dean
of Faculty and is a member of the Council
of Deans. The College of Education has
received state-wide recognition on a number
of occasions; most recently the College
was recognized for its key role in increasing
numbers of teachers and numbers of minority
teachers for the state of Georgia. The
more than 60 member team of full-time
faculty and staff in the College of Education
are organized into four departments: Early
Childhood Education, Health and Physical
Education, Middle and Secondary Education,
and Special and Adult Education, as well
as the Georgia Technology Training Center.
Approximately 470 undergraduate teacher
education students, 480 graduate students,
and 300 pre-education candidates are enrolled
in classes. All teacher education programs
at Armstrong Atlantic State University
are approved by the Georgia Professional
Standards Commission and accredited by
the National Council for Accreditation
of Teacher Education. All programs of
the university are accredited by the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools.
Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and vision for the
College of Education
- Serve as an advocate for the needs and
programs of the College of Education including
graduate education and off campus centers
- Support faculty in teaching, professional
development, service, and scholarship
- Support assessment by disseminating
and using data in decision making
- Actively seek financial support and
fundraising for the departments and the
college
- Develop and maintain productive collaborations
with sister institutions in the University
System of Georgia

| Qualifications: |
- Earned doctoral degree in a discipline
appropriate within a College of Education
- Record of excellence in teaching and
scholarship commensurate with the rank
of Full Professor and eligibility for
graduate faculty status and tenure at
the time of appointment
- Record of significant administrative
experience in higher education, including
management of complex budgets and supervision
of personnel
- Knowledge of and experience in teacher
education
- Record of P-12 school experience
- Knowledge of and experience with NCATE
accreditation
- Successful experience in collaborating
with liberal arts and sciences
- Successful experience of outreach into
the community including outreach to schools,
foundations, and/or business organizations
- Understanding of and commitment to issues
related to diversity
- Evidence of political proficiency in
educational and legislative environments
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal
communication skills
