position of Department Head for the Department
of Information Technology. The department head
will be responsible for providing vision and
leadership as well as engaging in strategic
planning, maintaining currency in curriculum,
collaborating with other departments, participating
in the WebBSIT consortium, teaching in his/her
area of expertise, providing fiscal management,
and performing other duties as assigned by
the Dean. |

| Qualifications: |
The successful applicant is required to
have a doctoral degree in Information
Technology or related field, demonstrated
administrative and leadership experience,
evidence of a strong commitment to undergraduate
education, and a strong record of scholarship.
We wish to attract candidates interested
in interdisciplinary programs and in conducting
research involving undergraduate students.
Employment is contingent upon successful
completion of a background investigation.

| The Department: |
The Department of Information
Technology at Armstrong Atlantic has approximately
140 information technology majors in the on-campus
undergraduate Bachelor of Information Technology
program. Additionally, the department is part
of a consortium with five other state universities
offering an on-line Bachelor of Science in
Information Technology degree (WebBSIT). The
department is completing work towards the creation
of a new interdisciplinary minor in cyber security.
IT faculty have been awarded several substantial
externally funded grants that support students,
either through scholarships or stipends. |

Armstrong Atlantic
State University emphasizes quality of undergraduate
education. AASU is a four-year coeducational
senior unit in the University System of Georgia
and has an enrollment of approximately 6800
students. Average class size is about 20 students.
It is located approximately twelve miles south
of the historic district of the city of Savannah
on a modern 268 acre campus. The core mission
of the university is a strong liberal arts
education for all students, and the strategic
directions of the university are applied science
and technology, teacher education, health professions,
and community and economic development. |

Armstrong is located
in historic Savannah Georgia, a coastal city
located 250 miles southeast of Atlanta, Georgia
and 150 miles north of Jacksonville, Florida.
Savannah has long been known as a charming
city; rich in beauty, cultural diversity, support
for the arts, and opportunities for recreation.
In the last decade the city has capitalized
on its diverse manufacturing base, flourishing
tourist industry, and thriving port to become
the economic motor for the region. With a metropolitan
area population of 296,232 and an adjacent
six-county population of 471,000, Savannah
is well-positioned for future growth. The university
campus is 20 miles from sandy beaches, and
only a mile or so from crabbing, shrimping,
and saltwater fishing. |
