Armstrong Atlantic
State University seeks a full-time reference/library
instruction librarian. This faculty-rank position,
at the level of instructor or assistant professor,
is responsible for providing high-quality reference
assistance and instruction in the use of information
resources to library users at the reference
desk, in the classroom, and in other venues
as assigned. The person employed in this position
designs and teaches course-related library
instruction/information literacy sessions;
conducts tours and develops workshops focused
on the library and its resources for students,
faculty, and other groups; assists in the selection
and weeding of the reference and circulating
collections in assigned areas; prepares print
and web-based information resources for library
users; participates in library and university
committee work and activities and in professional
programs and activities. The work schedule
for this position is Tuesday through Saturday,
with some evening work required. The incumbent
is responsible for Saturday reference service,
with some oversight required of Saturday student
workers. Other duties may be assigned by the
University Librarian and/or the Head of Reference
and Instruction. |

| Qualifications: |
Master's degree from an American Library
Association accredited program in library/information
studies must be received by date of hire.
Other requirements include strong record
of academic achievement in undergraduate
and graduate work; excellent interpersonal,
oral, and written communication skills;
flexibility and ability to work collaboratively
with diverse colleagues, students, and
faculty; strong commitment to providing
courteous service in a user-centered environment;
recent knowledge of and experience with
both online and print reference and bibliographic
resources typically found in academic
libraries. Knowledge of current learning,
teaching, and information literacy practices
preferred. Relevant computer-based skills
(e.g., Microsoft Office, Web CT/VISTA,
etc.) are a plus. Experience teaching
and providing reference services to graduate
and undergraduate students in an academic
library setting highly desirable. Candidates
invited to interview must present a sample
library instruction session. Must be able
to lift 20 lbs, push/pull book cart, and
stand/step/reach/bend as necessary to
reach books and journals and assist library
users. Must pass criminal background check
before hire.
