Description:

Armstrong Atlantic State University, a four-year coeducational senior unit in the University System of Georgia, invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice President for Business and Finance. The Vice President for Business and Finance provides executive leadership for the university's business and finance operation. The Vice President for Business and Finance plans and directs the effective and efficient implementation of the university's fiscal and business systems necessary to support the university's mission, strategic plan, goals and purposes. He/she will advise the president and other senior administrators on shaping fiscal policies to assure operational efficiency and the financial strength of the university.

The Vice President for Business and Finance reports directly to the President of the university and is a vital part of the senior leadership team of the university. He/she must demonstrate the highest standards of professional conduct, promote a customer service orientation, encourage teamwork and inclusive decision making, and communicate openly, effectively, efficiently with fellow administrators, faculty, staff, students and external constituencies. The Vice President for Business and Finance will provide leadership in safeguarding, developing and maintaining the university's physical facilities and all monetary and non-monetary assets. He/she will provide clear, understandable, and transparent financial data and budget information to support decision making and assure timely and accurate submission of budgets, financial reports, and performance measures. He/she must adhere to the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia policies and business procedures manual, and all applicable federal and state laws.

The Vice President for Business and Finance will have direct supervisory responsibility for the following areas: budget, finance, business services, facilities, human resources and auxiliary services (student housing, food service, athletics, recreation center, student activities, health center and bookstore), and may include other areas. In addition, he/she will provide direct fiscal oversight and supervision for all institutional grants and contracts. He/She will serve as an ex-officio member of all university cooperative organizations. The Vice President for Business and Finance represents the university to appropriate external groups and individuals, including committees of the University System of Georgia.

 
Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

- Earned master's degree (minimum) in a field related to business and finance and/or CPA certification
- Leadership skills that encourage teamwork, participative decision making, and willingness to collaborate and work effectively with colleagues, especially fellow senior administrators
- Ability to supervise and manage multiple projects simultaneously, with attention to details, timelines, deadlines, and within a university-wide context
- Evidence of strong understanding of acceptable standards and practices to ensure the university audits are problem-free
- Senior level experiences in working with complex public university budgets and financial transactions
- Commitment to customer service and understanding of the importance of fiscal policy on all aspects of university operations
- Commitment to diversity
- Strong commitment to openness and transparency in budget and financial matters
- Supervisory experience as it relates to overseeing and effective and efficient organization through hiring, development and motivation of personnel
- Experience in negotiating and consummating special financial partnerships such as public-private capital ventures, real estate acquisition, contracts, etc.
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

- Preference will be given to applicants with at least five years of senior level administration and management experience in a higher education business and finance operation
- Knowledge of and experiences with University System of Georgia fiscal policies and procedures
- Familiarity with NACUBO standards.

The University: Armstrong Atlantic State University is a four-year coeducational senior unit in the University System of Georgia and has an enrollment of more than 6,800 students and 650 employees (faculty and staff) along with approximately 500 student workers. The university's annual payroll is approximately $36 million.
