Part Time Instructors

You have been hired as a part time instructor on our campus. We welcome you and hope that you find working here a great an experience!Part-time instructors are hired on an as-needed basis with no guarantee of continued employment. All academic credentials are handled through the Vice President for Academic Affairs Office. The Human Resources Office does not retain any academic credentials on instructors.
When you begin teaching, you will receive a brief memo from the Vice-President detailing your salary, courses being taught, and pay dates for each semester. Pay dates are determined by the session you are teaching and the length of the course.
This is the online orientation for part time employees. It is very important to read each page carefully, and print out all of the required pages and documents in order to make this transition a smoother one for all parties.
During this orientation, you will be required to complete a series of documents; please complete all the necessary forms that will be shown in the orientation:
All employees are required to complete the "Right to Know" training which covers hazardous chemicals in the workplace. You will be given the opportunity to complete this online training during this orientation. At the end you will be asked to complete & print a completion certificate. This certificate MUST be included with your other employment paperwork.
It is the policy of AASU that all faculty, staff and students have the opportunity to study and work in an atmosphere and environment free from any form of harassment or retaliation. A copy of AASU's Harassment Policy will be made available to you during this orientation. Please read this policy carefully. You will be asked to print an acknowledgment of receipt of the harassment policy. This form MUST be included with your other employment paperwork.
If you would like an AASU ID or a parking decal, you will need to have the Employment Verification Form completed by an employee in your department. An AASU ID can be issued at the Student Activities Office. This will act as your library card, grant you access to the Fitness Center and some activities on campus free to students, faculty and staff. A parking decal can be issued from the Public Safety Office.
All part-time (less than half-time) state employees are required to participate in the Georgia Defined Contribution Plan. This plan will take 7 1/2% of your gross (after tax) salary and put it in a retirement plan. There are no matching funds or tax deferment. By law, employees are able to come by the Human Resources Office at the end of every semester they work and apply for a refund. These monies are not able to be rolled over into any other qualified retirement plan. This deduction is offset by reduced Social Security tax. AASU will only take 1.45% FICA Medicare tax...not 7.65% full FICA tax. There are exemptions to this membership:
- Presently employed in a state or county school system or agency requiring them to be members of (and actively contributing to) Teachers Retirement System of Georgia or Employees Retirement System of Georgia (state merit).
- Presently a retiree receiving a monthly pension from TRS or ERS. (Being retired and on Social Security DOES NOT exempt one from this plan.)
- Full-time students.
- Non-resident aliens with F1, J1, or J2 visas.
- Bona fide independent contractors.
**When you bring your completed paperwork to Human Resources, you are required to produce TWO forms of acceptable identification. There is a page in this orientation titled "Lists of Acceptable Documents." You must have the ORIGINAL forms of identification in order to be processed. If you do not have the original forms of identification, Human Resources cannot accept your orientation packet.
After you have completed your orientation packet, you will bring it to Human Resources.
