Accomplishments
2005 – 2006 proved to be a successful as well as exciting year for the Staff Advisory Council! The newly formed Council accomplished a great deal during the past year—setting the bar high for future Council members.
- The Council hosted a booth at AASU Day, which successfully collected $143.00. Proceeds from the AASU Day booth were contributed to the Staff Textbook Scholarship.
- The Staff Textbook Scholarship was established to help AASU staff members pay for course textbooks. In addition, this scholarship is an incentive for staff members who are eligible for Tuition Assistance to attend classes here at Armstrong.
- A Sick Leave Pool was established putting Armstrong among the first institutions to offer this benefit to staff and faculty. Currently, there are 2000+ hours in the Sick Leave Pool.
- The Special Events Committee staged its first community project, “Spring for Your Neighbor,” this past spring, collecting toiletry items for S.A.F.E. Shelter. The project resulted in 302 complete toiletry packs and six boxes of larger-size products for use by S.A.F.E. Shelter clients.
2006 – 2007 Staff Advisory Council accomplishments include:
- Two new awards for staff recognition were created. The Spirit of Armstrong Award was presented to Chris McCarthy at the annual Leadership Award Program. The new Staff Service to the Community Award will be granted for the first time in 2008. $500 will go to a non-profit organization of the winner’s choice.
- A service project for Union Mission helped this worthy organization care for people in need. AASU collected and donated 50 bags of clothes, toiletries, bedding and shoes to Union Mission.
- The AAU Staff Advisory Council became an official member of the University System of Georgia Staff Council. Scott Gilreath represented the AASU staff at the University System of GA Staff Conference at Albany State.
- The Sick Leave Pool that was implemented last year grew to 146 members.
- The Buy the Book Booth at the 2006 Celebrate AASU festival raised $521 for the Staff textbook Scholarship Fund.
